Nattokinase is an enzyme extracted and purified from a Japanese food called Natto. Natto is a food made from fermented soybeans that has been eaten in Japan for many years. Natto is produced by fermentation by adding the bacterium Bacillus natto, a beneficial bacteria, to boiled soybeans.
Nattokinase is a powerful proteolytic enzyme that has both fibrinolytic and anti-inflammatory health benefits. It is best known for its astounding fibrinolytic (anti-clotting) capacities.

Function/Application
Fibrin is the main component of thrombus. It is a protein composed of polypeptide chains and has strong stability and adhesion. Fibrinolytic enzymes can cleave the peptide bonds of fibrin and break it into small molecules, thereby dissolving the thrombus. The main function of nattokinase is to activate plasminogen and convert it into fibrinolytic enzyme, thereby decomposing the fibrin in the thrombus and dissolving the thrombus.
The thrombolytic effect of Nattokinase is highly selective and specific. It can only act on the fibrin in the thrombus and will not affect the healthy blood vessel wall. Therefore, nattokinase is considered a safe and effective thrombolytic agent and has been widely used in cardiovascular clinical treatment.

Enzyme activity definition:Nattokinase reacts with fibrin to hydrolyze the peptide bonds of fibrin. The hydrolysis reaction changes the absorbance of the solution at 275 nm of ultraviolet light. One activity unit (1FU) refers to the energy consumed for every 0.01 increase in the absorbance value at 275 nm.
